Why Market Square (Kauppatori) matters

The Market Square sits right on the harbour and is where many first-time visitors begin. Stalls sell berries, fresh fish, fried vendace and souvenirs, while ferries and boat tours depart from the quay. It is touristy but good fun, especially in summer when the sun is low over the water. The Presidential Palace stands at one side.

Talking points

  • Stalls sell berries, fresh fish and fried vendace.
  • Ferries to Suomenlinna leave from the quay nearby.
  • The Presidential Palace is on the edge of the square.
