Why Municipal House matters

The Municipal House is a golden, curvy celebration of Art Nouveau. Inside are painted ceilings, mosaics and a concert hall used by orchestras. Even if you only stop for a coffee in the cafe, you will see the style at its most glamorous. It stands next to the old Powder Tower.

Talking points

  • The building is one of the city's finest examples of Art Nouveau.
  • The adjacent Powder Tower is a Gothic gate.
  • The cafe is open to anyone for a drink or cake.
