Why Old Town Square matters

This square is a greatest-hits album of European architecture. A twin-spired Gothic church faces pastel baroque facades, and a bronze monument to the reformer Jan Hus stands in the middle. It has been a market place and a stage for history for centuries. Come in the evening, when it is lit up, and watch the world pass.

Talking points

  • The twin-towered Church of Our Lady before Tyn dominates one side.
  • The Jan Hus memorial commemorates a key figure of Bohemian history.
  • Christmas markets fill the square in December.
