Why Petrin Hill and Lookout Tower matters

Take the funicular or walk up through the blossoms to escape the crowds. At the top stands a small lookout tower that mirrors the Paris icon in spirit, and the view over the river and rooftops is excellent. In spring the orchards bloom and locals picnic. It is the best break from sightseeing in the city.

Talking points

  • A funicular railway climbs the hill.
  • The lookout tower was built in the nineteenth century.
  • The slopes are covered in orchards and gardens.
