Why Museum Island matters

Museum Island is basically a campus of civilisation. Five grand museums share one small island in the river Spree, built over the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to hold antiquities, sculpture and art. Between them you can see Egyptian treasures, ancient sculpture and Old Master paintings. Some buildings or galleries may be under renovation, so check what's open before you pick a museum.

Good to know: Choose one or two museums rather than trying to do all of them in a day.
