Why Skaftafell matters

Skaftafell is a green pocket of birch woods, rivers and waterfalls in front of the vast Vatnajökull ice cap. Easy walking trails lead to Svartifoss and to viewpoints of glacier tongues. Longer hikes and guided glacier walks are available. The visitor centre is a good source of information on safe routes, since weather can change quickly.
