Why Stokksnes and Vestrahorn matters

Vestrahorn is a sharp, craggy mountain that rises straight from the sea on the Stokksnes peninsula. In front of it lie black sand dunes with golden grass and a shallow tidal lagoon that reflects the peaks. It's privately owned land, and a small entry fee is usually charged at a cafe on arrival. Come at sunrise or sunset for the best light.

Talking points

  • The mountain rises straight out of the sea.
  • Dunes and grass frame the view.
  • Entry is usually paid at the cafe by the road.
