Why Vilnius University matters

Founded in the 16th century, the university has been part of Vilnius life ever since. Its complex consists of a series of linked courtyards, each with a different character, and a lovely baroque church. Visitors can walk through the arcaded courtyards and, in places, see painted ceilings and an old library hall. It is a peaceful place in the middle of the old town.
