Why Checkpoint Charlie matters

Checkpoint Charlie was the best-known crossing point between the American and Soviet sectors during the Cold War. Today the original booth is a replica, and the street is a busy tourist spot, so it works best as a quick photo stop with a short read of the display boards. For depth, go to the Wall Memorial instead.

Talking points

  • It was a crossing for foreigners and Allied personnel
  • The guardhouse on site is a replica
  • Outdoor panels explain the story
