Why Filopappou Hill matters

Filopappou Hill is the green neighbour of the Acropolis, covered in pines and paths. Climb to the monument at the top and the Parthenon appears across the way, with the city spread beyond. It is a favourite for locals at sunset and far less crowded than the main sights. Wear walking shoes, since the paths are stony.

Talking points

  • It gives a classic side view of the Parthenon.
  • Locals come here for sunset and walks.
  • It is free and uncrowded.
