Why Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek matters

The Glyptotek is funded from beer money and filled with treasures. Its collections include ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman sculpture, plus an excellent run of French and Danish paintings. The building is an attraction in its own right, with a glass-domed winter garden full of palm trees that makes a lovely place to rest in the middle of winter. It is close to Tivoli, so pairing the two works well.

Talking points

  • It was founded by the family behind Carlsberg beer.
  • The glass-domed winter garden is full of palms.
